‘Double Dragon Revive’ Punches To 2025 Release With Fully 3D Graphics

The Double Dragon series has built a reputation for consistent releases, which is impressive (and surprising) for an arcade game that dates back to 1987. A year after the most recent debut of Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, publisher Arc System Works and developer Yuke’s have announced Double Dragon Revive, slated to drop in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The upcoming entry will receive a modern facelift, sporting fully 3D character models and environments. The franchise’s signature 2D side-scrolling elements return in an announcement trailer, alongside protagonists Billy and Jimmy Lee, as well as enemies Roper and Adobo. Both single-player and two-player co-op are supported, with the main duo appearing simultaneously in the latter.

Additionally, players will be able to pick up weapons littered throughout stages and execute gimmicks by using the environment. Other notable features include updated controls, difficulty settings, and possibly an online mode with in-game chat. Fans can check out a first look at the brawler below, courtesy of Weekly Famitsu:

As mentioned, Yuke’s, known for their work on the WWE 2K franchise until 2K19 and AEW: Fight Forever, will helm the development. Arc System Works, meanwhile, is the studio behind multiple fighting games, such as Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising.

The original title made a splash in arcades when it first burst into the scene. It has seen numerous sequels, spin-offs, and crossover releases over the years, with Arc acquiring the rights to the series in 2015.

Double Dragon Revive is due to release sometime in 2025.
