‘Doom’ Creator John Romero Aims For New First-Person Shooter

For fans of the amazing series that is Doom, creator John Romero is the guy to thank. While he has not been working on the modern iterations of the first-person shooter, none of it would have been possible without his trailblazing ways. Now, a new announcement coming via Romero Games will have shooter fans’ attention, as John Romero is working on a new first-person shooter.

Taking to Twitter, the studio posted a call for applicants to join them and work on this new game.

“It’s a new dawn for Romero Games. We are 100% focused on first-person shooters, the foundation that built our careers, our studio and a genre. Our current project is an all-new FPS with an original, new IP. Romero Games is working with a major publisher using state-of-the-art technology – Unreal Engine 5,” the studio shared.

“You are welcome to join our studio and our team. Romero Games has a long history of inclusivity, diversity and respect, and this is reflected in our team, our leadership, our culture and benefits, and our development partners. Most of the team have worked together for nearly a decade, and some have worked together for twice that. We genuinely like working with one another, and look forward to welcoming you.”

Open positions listed include roles for coding, design, and art, with more positions to come soon. Obviously, there is not a ton of information on this new shooter being developed at Romero Games, so we will have to wait and see.

The studio’s most recent offering was Empire of Sin, a strategy and management title that took players to Chicago during the Prohibition era and tasked them to rise to the top.
