Disney has officially announced release dates and windows for several beloved film franchises, including Frozen, Moana, Zootopia, Toy Story, and Star Wars in their quarterly earnings call, which also revealed a new partnership with Epic Games.
Disney makes a return to the Frozen universe with the previously-teased Frozen 3 coming in 2026, with more to explore in Arendelle and beyond. A teaser for Moana 2 was posted to Disney’s YouTube page, after the surprise announcement of its 27 November release this year. And it seems we have more news on the Din and Grogu-led Star Wars movie, which will open in cinemas sometime in 2026.
Here’s a rough timeline of major upcoming Disney film releases:
- Alien: Romulus : 16 August 2024
- Moana 2: 27 November 2024
- Mufasa: The Lion King: 20 December 2024
- Moana Live-Action Movie: 27 June 2025
- Zootopia 2: 26 November 2025
- Frozen 3, Toy Story 5, & The Mandalorian & Grogu: 2026
2026 will see the return of Star Wars to the big screen after a seven-year absence from cinemas, hopefully in a new direction. It will also mark the first Toy Story movie in seven years, though Toy Story 4 seemed to resolve the overarching plot of the series, so it’ll be interesting to see where the next movie goes.
With so many big Disney film releases announced, the company is hopefully recouping its losses from 2023, but time will tell if they will successfully make a comeback and clinch the top box office spot from Universal.
