‘Digimon Beatbreak’ Anime Coming Oct 2025, Teases “Emotion-Devouring Digital Lifeforms”

In a surprise treat for fans old and new, the Digimon franchise is set for a highly-anticipated return to the world of anime after a two-year hiatus. Digimon Beatbreak will be the latest entry in the long-running series, and it’s slated to air sometime this October.

Announced during the Digimon Con 2025 livestream event, the trailer for the upcoming show doesn’t give much away, but teases “emotion-devouring digital lifeforms”, suggesting a central conflict that explores the concept of Digimon feasting on human emotions. It’s certainly an intriguing take, complemented by a dark purple colour scheme and the shadowy introduction of the protagonist and his Digmon partner, who both ooze a sinister and menacing aura.

The grittier twist is a logical leap for the series, considering its most recent anime, Digimon Ghost Game, tackled more mature subject matter. Enthusiasts should keep their expectations in check, however — it’s unlikely to fully embrace the tonal shift, as doing so would represent a departure from the franchise’s core values and possibly alienate the community.

Running from 2021 to 2023, Ghost Game is the ninth anime instalment in the Digimon franchise and the first to adopt the horror genre. Digimon Adventure marked its anime debut in 1999, while its sequel Digimon Adventure 02 aired from 2000 to 2001. The franchise’s roots date back to 1997, though, for it was created as the masculine digital pet counterpart to Tamagotchi.
