The Digimon franchise has come a long way since its days as a digital pet device, and it’s looking to celebrate the next milestone in a big way. As announced on X/Twitter, a new anime series is debuting in 2027 to mark its 30th anniversary, though no other details were shared.
There’s another treat in store for longtime fans. As part of the occasion, Fuji TV will air the favourite episodes from the first four anime titles on 4 October, determined through worldwide fan voting: Digimon Adventure (1999), its 2000 sequel Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers (2001-2002), and the 50-episode Digimon Frontier (2002-2003). The latest entry in the beloved franchise, Digimon Beatbreak, represented a departure from tradition with a grittier storytelling twist, and will end its run on 27 September.
“Tomoro Tenma lives in a world where human thoughts and emotions—known as ‘e-Pulse’—power AI devices called Sapotama. But when Digimon begin materialising from Sapotama and feeding on e-Pulse, society begins to fracture,” reads the official description. “After Gekkomon appears from his device, Tomoro joins Glowing Dawn, a secret team investigating rogue Digimon and the dark truth of a system both fueled and corrupted by emotion.”
While little else is known about the upcoming anime project, Digimon Adventure will first be at the front and centre of a collaboration with Lilith Games’ open-field idle role-playing game AFK Journey. Kicking off on 18 August, it features new content, special in-game rewards, and limited-edition costumes.
