‘Diablo IV’ Out On Steam Starting Mid-Oct

The gates of the Burning Hells have opened once more – this time, on a different platform. Diablo IV is coming to Steam four months after the PC version launched exclusively on Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher, following in the footsteps of hero shooter Overwatch 2.

As per the official announcement post, the hellish action role-playing game is listed for a 17 or 18 October release, depending on the region. First-timers will need to buy it first on Valve’s storefront, then connect it to a Battle.net account to enable cross-platform play. Once done, Steam achievements, a player’s friends list, and the option to invite them to play in-game can all be accessed.

Diablo IV‘s Steam debut also coincides with the start of Season 2, titled Season of Blood. First announced during Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live, it will bring a new Questline, five endgame bosses, new Vampiric Powers, several quality-of-life updates, and more to the mix. The title launched to great fanfare in June this year, earning US$666 million in revenue after just five days. However, a series of update missteps and lack of endgame content has since caused interest to wane.

Still, Blizzard is hoping the Steam launch will give Diablo IV the boost that it sorely needs. Overwatch 2, the company’s first game to land on the platform, remains widely panned with an “overwhelmingly negative” score, likely prompted by player dissatisfaction over a Battle Pass system and cancelled PvE content. Diablo IV should be relatively safe from the backlash, since it was generally more well-received – even despite the subsequent blunders.
