For a while, spearfishing and running a sushi restaurant was the way of life, as indie gem Dave the Diver enamoured many with its underwater thrills and management simulator fun. More excitement will soon follow, taking the form of a huge content update that introduces crabs, lobsters, and a whole load of other delights.
These crustaceans are new shelled friends (or food) that can be caught in the deeps using special traps, with a lobster party event added to coincide with their arrival. This addition joins a new quality of life feature, where players can request Sammy’s help to assist with farming tasks without having to constantly visit their farms. A new egg storage box will also prevent spoilage, while a feed dispenser ensures chickens remain well-fed.
Elsewhere, the October-bound patch introduces more quests to the glacier area, which currently has fewer missions than other story-focused locations, as well as night-time diving content. While there will be night-exclusive creatures, some species show up both during the day and night.
Over in the sushi restaurant, a new VIP customer, the wandering merchant, will occasionally swing by once players have fulfilled his order request. Items on his selling list include crops and merchant-exclusive merchant recipes, so do keep an eye out for him.
As for other notable features, expect to raise previously absent creatures on the fish farm, increase the harvest yield of seaweed, and purchase seeds directly on the farm, as well as a much-requested nerf for the thresher shark. The bloodthirsty predator will soon have its range of sight, pursuit speed, and damage reduced, spelling good news for Daves everywhere.
Game developer Mintrocket hasn’t fixed a release date for its October update, but promises it’ll arrive “real soon”. Beyond that, Dave the Diver is set to welcome a “very powerful new boss” sometime in the unspecified future, which unlocks for players who have collected all existing Marinca cards in the game.
