‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Disney+ Series Will Be Dark, But Not As Gory As Netflix

One thing that fans loved about Netflix’s Daredevil series was that it was mature, gritty and brutal. Now that The Man Without Fear is making his way to a Disney+ series, fans can’t help but wonder if Matt Murdock will still pack a punch.

The answer is, yes. But probably not as gory.

In an interview with NME, actor Charlie Cox – who first embodied the lawyer and blind vigilante for three seasons starting in 2015 – clarified that the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again will take on a similar tone as the Netflix show.

“This character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience,” said Cox. “My instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.”

Pulling back on the blood and violence may not entirely be a bad thing. According to the Marvel star, making the series less gory might make the show and character more accessible to wider audiences.

“I would say to those people, we’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden?” said Cox. “Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”

Cox reprised the role of Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Aside from Cox, Daredevil: Born Again series will also see Vincent D’Onofrio reprise his role of Kingpin, a character he played both in the Netflix series and in Hawkeye. The series will also star Michael Gandolfini, Sandrine Holt and Margarita Levieva.

Few details have been revealed about the Disney+ series. Cox said he has not seen any scripts or outlines and knows little about what the show will involve. What we do know is that Daredevil: Born Again will feature 18 episodes in its first season and that the series is currently slated to premiere in 2024.
