Dante Battles Demons To Nu Metal Soundtrack And Faces Vergil In Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’ Trailer

Dante is back, and this time, the demon hunter is bringing his signature chaos to Netflix. From sword-swinging acrobatics to bullet-riddled demon takedowns, the new Devil May Cry trailer for Netflix makes it clear that Studio Mir is embracing everything that made the franchise a gaming phenomenon.

The latest Devil May Cry trailer wastes no time setting the tone, launching straight into Dante’s world with the unmistakable sound of Papa Roach’s Last Resort blasting in the background. The red-coated devil hunter finds himself up against more than just the supernatural, as authorities consider him a top-level threat. The late Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) lends his voice to one of the figures calling for Dante’s elimination, adding an ominous weight to the trailer’s opening moments. With demons threatening to tear open a portal between realms, Dante becomes humanity’s best shot at survival… whether they like it or not. The footage also introduces the White Rabbit, a dapper yet demented antagonist looking to usher in an age of demonic rule.

Dante’s reputation as a devil-hunting freelancer means he’s rarely alone in his battles. Lady, a skilled but ruthless hunter, gets in on the action, matching Dante in both skill and intensity. Their rooftop encounter is anything but friendly, with gunfire and quips flying in equal measure. Fans of the franchise will recognise this as a nod to Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening, where Lady made her first appearance as an adversary before becoming an uneasy ally. The trailer ends on a particularly exciting note, teasing a confrontation between Dante and his twin brother, Vergil. The rivalry between the Sons of Sparda has fueled some of the most iconic battles in the series, and their clash in the anime promises to be no different.

Johnny Yong Bosch takes on the role of Dante, bringing experience from his time as Nero in Devil May Cry 4 and Devil May Cry 5, as well as  Vash the Stampede in Trigun, and Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach. The voice cast also includes Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween) as Lady, Hoon Lee (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as the White Rabbit, and Chris Coppola (Friday the 13th) as Enzo.

Adi Shankar, known for his work on Netflix’s Castlevania, spearheaded the adaptation, with writer Alex Larsen shaping the story. Development on the series began in 2018, with the goal of delivering an anime faithful to Hideki Kamiya’s original vision while setting the stage for potential future seasons. With five mainline games and multiple spin-offs, the Devil May Cry franchise has plenty of material to draw from. If this adaptation delivers on its promise, it could mark the beginning of a long, action-packed run for Dante on Netflix.

Netflix’s synopsis reads: “In this animated adaptation of the popular Capcom game and from the vision of Adi Shankar, sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.”

Devil May Cry premieres on Netflix on 3 April.
