The next round of supernatural hijinks and rom-com flair is set to follow Momo and Okarun / Ken Takakura soon, as Season 2 of DAN DA DAN has been set for a 3 July premiere in Japan. Additionally, the anime is getting a global theatrical run starting 30 May, which includes an exclusive interview with co-directors Fuga Yamashiro and Abel Gongora.
Animation studio Science Saru returns to helm the sophomore outing, picking up from the cliffhanger ending that sets the stage for the manga’s Cursed House Arc. It will lead into the Evil Eye arc, where the teenage duo fights against a powerful yokai possession.
Meanwhile, DAN DA DAN: Evil Eye compiles the last three episodes of Season 1 and the first three episodes of the new season into a big-screen feature. Asia, including Singapore, gets first dibs on 30 May, before it opens in North America and Europe on 6 and 7 June, respectively.
A new key visual was also revealed for both projects, with the theatrical iteration serving as a tweaked version of a previous Season 2 image:
Mutsumi Tamura (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) joins the roster as a newcomer, lending her voice to antagonist Evil Eye. Reprising their roles in the upcoming season are Shion Wakayama (SSSS.Dynazenon) as Momo, Natsuki Hanae (Demon Slayer: Kimestu no Yaiba) as Okarun, Ayane Sakura (My Hero Academia) as Aira Shiratori, Kaito Ishikawa (Haikyu!!) as Jin Enjoji / Jiji, and more.
Separately, an accolades trailer was released to celebrate an important milestone for the manga, which has now surpassed 10 million copies in print. The series is described as such:
“When high schooler Momo, from a family of spirit mediums, first meets her classmate Okarun, an occult geek, they argue—Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. When it turns out both phenomena are real, Momo awakens a hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse. Together, they must challenge the paranormal forces threatening their world.”
DAN DA DAN Season 2 returns this July.
