Borderlands Movie Cast Star Wars Battlefront II Janina Gavankar As Commander Knoxx

Alongside the recent casting of Edgar Ramirez as Atlas for the upcoming Borderlands movie, Deadline has revealed that actress Janina Gavankar has signed to play Commander Knoxx in Gearbox’s video game adaption. Gavankar is known for her role as the Imperial super-commando Iden Verso in Star Wars Battlefront 2

Commander Knoxx is the daughter of General Knoxx, the villain in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for the original Borderlands. Although the Deadline report doesn’t seem to hint at how Gavankar’s role will fit in the film, it’s unlikely she’s going to be playing someone nice as Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford himself hinted that she “followed in her father’s footsteps when she joined Atlas’ private army, the Crimson Lance. She is, in a word, badass.”

The recent press release also revealed the official plot synopsis for the first time:

Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistent wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.”

The Borderlands movie has an impressive cast so far, which includes Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack Black but the official release date of the movie has not been announced yet.
