‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Drops First Looks At Younger Versions Of Familiar Faces

Lionsgate is gearing up for an epic Second Quarter Quell with their upcoming prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, offering a first tease of the younger versions of its iconic characters.

To celebrate the prequel’s launch later this year, Lionsgate dropped a franchise lookback video, which not only lets viewers view the entire Hunger Games film timeline so far, but it also drops a first look at the upcoming movie, unveiling its new cast that will portray the younger versions of familiar characters.

Cast members shown in the teaser include Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket (originally played by
Elizabeth Banks), Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman (originally played by Stanley Tucci), Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee (originally played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman), Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier (originally played by Jeffrey Wright), Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow (originally played by the late Donald Sutherland), Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan (originally played by the late Lynn Cohen), Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy (originally played by Woody Harrelson) and Maya Hawke as Wiress (originally played by Amanda Plummer).

Helmed once again by the recurring franchise director Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set during the 50th Hunger Games, 24 years before the events of the Jennifer Lawrence-led trilogy. The film will also be a sequel to the franchise’s first prequel, 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which covered the events of the 10th Hunger Games.

The cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is rounded off by Glenn Close, McKenna Grace, Billy Porter, Ben Wang, Whitney Peak and Iris Apatow, with Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson also reprising their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. The prequel is set to launch in theatres on 20 November 2026.
