‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Expected 100K Players, Hit 800K In Massive Launch

If you haven’t heard of the roleplaying juggernaut that is Baldur’s Gate 3 before, you sure will now. The full launch of Larian Studios‘ RPG following a period in Steam Early Access has seen the community turn out in droves, with a staggering number of players enjoying the game during the early days of launch. As of now, the peak player count for Baldur’s Gate 3 stands at 814,666, an excellent achievement for launch.

That number means that Baldur’s Gate 3 has grabbed the 9th spot in the all-time worldwide charts as well, beating out the likes of Apex Legends, Call of Duty, and Terraria. The success has even taken the developers at Larian Studios by surprise, with developer Swen Vincke taking to social media to share the sentiment.

Of course, this only includes the numbers on Steam, with the RPG also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The actual numbers are likely going to be even higher than what we already know.

The reception for Baldur’s Gate 3 is likely born of several factors, such as an appetite for a single-player and narrative-driven game, as well as the care and commitment put into developing a massive title such as this one.

Having been in Early Access since 2020, the studio has been working hard together with player feedback to further refine the game. With the expertise of the developers and the hardcore support of its most ardent fans, the final result is a polished product that maintains its appeal for one and all.

Together with the fact that this is a full release with no monetisation involved other than the purchase of the game itself, it is not hard to see why Baldur’s Gate 3 has stormed out of the starting gates as well as it has. And with time, it is likely it will only get more popular, and lead to more success for the folks behind the game. This record could only just be the beginning, and that is nothing but a good thing.
