Apple In Talks To License Google Gemini For iPhone AI Features

The AI trend is here to stay and Apple wants in on a highly-competitive market. Ever since Open AI’s Chat GPT transformed the digital landscape, Google’s Gemini AI has risen to become a worthy contender. In a latest development, Apple is in talks with both companies to bring advanced AI features to the iPhone, and hopes to integrate Gemini with its features.

Bloomberg reported that Apple and Google are in “active negotiations” for Apple to license Gemini, and if a deal comes to fruition, this could shake up the current landscape and open up new possibilities for integrative AI in iOS 18. Apple is reportedly working on its own AI software, with rumors of ‘Apple GPT’ surfacing in February, though the company has not currently announced any new software.

“As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in Apple’s quarterly earnings call, “… we have got some things that we’re incredibly excited about, that we’ll be talking about later this year.”

Any updates will likely be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2024, which is shaping up to be an exciting conference.
