‘A Minecraft Movie’ Trailer Unveils Diamond Sword And Other Game Easter Eggs

Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for its upcoming live-action video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie, and it’s jam-packed with not only new story details, but tons of fun easter eggs and references to its source material. Check out the two-and-a-half-minute trailer below:

As Jack Black’s Steve so eloquently put it, “creativity is key to survival”, and the movie’s latest trailer has it in spades, filled with absurd references to the classic 2009 sandbox game it’s based on right from the get go, including Pandas magically spawning a child after obtaining some bamboo, Steve cushioning a fall using a water bucket, and Emma Myers’ Natalie crafting the iconic Diamond Sword in all its shiny blue splendor. In true Minecraft fashion, a creeper also makes an appearance, and subsequently explodes, a nod to one of the most annoying yet memorable parts of the game.

The trailer also reveals more about the movie’s overarching plot, centred around the discovery of the Nether and how it unleashed an army of Piglins upon the Overworld, mirroring the dangerous location players can access in the game down to the construction of a nether portal and the hostile enemy mobs found within. The movie’s big bad was also revealed, a Piglin ruler known as Malgosha voiced by Rachel House (Moana, Soul), alongside a cameo by Emmy award-winning actress Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus, American Pie), who hits a villager with her car and finally gives fans a proper look at their uncanny live-action faces.
