According to Deadline, Scott Derrickson, director of Doctor Strange, will be taking on directorial duties for TriStar Pictures’ upcoming sequel to Jim Hensen’s 1986 cult classic, Labyrinth! He will also be executive producing the sequel with C. Robert Cargill (Sinister).

The movie’s script will be penned by Maggie Levin, who wrote and directed Into the Dark and My Valentine for Hulu. Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company will be producing and Brian Henson is also on board to executive produce.

The original movie starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly has remained a cult classic with fans till today, despite being over three decades old.

No details on the plot or expected release date have been revealed yet, But here’s hoping Jennifer Connelly will reprise her role as Sarah, probably as a mother figure to the new protagonist. The biggest challenge would be to find a big bad that could live up to David Bowie’s timeless role as the Goblin King from the original. We’ll just have to wait and see…
