A Huge Fraction Of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Merch Held Back For A Spoiler-free Force Friday

As with any major movie franchise, the battle between the urge to find out exactly what happens in the next instalment and the desire to go into the theatre with as little an idea as possible on what will happen is definitely real. For the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, this battle is just that much stronger.

It seems that the folks at Hasbro are aware of this as it was revealed on Cinema Blend that only about a third of Hasbro’s products produced for Star Wars: The RIse of Skywalker will be released on Triple Force Friday.

The main reason? Potential spoilers.

We have clear conversations about what can come out when, and what needs to stay under wraps. We work around things with that in mind. At least from a Hasbro stand point, [the product on display is] maybe 30-35% of our full line.

Mike Ballog, Senior Director of Global Marketing at Hasbro via Cinema Blend.

The senior VP of licensing at Lucasfilm Paul Southern reiterated Ballog’s comments, explaining that the rest of the products under Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will only hit retail stores after the movie premiere in theatres this December.

“There are products that you’re not seeing, that you won’t see until after the film comes out. Even the characters that we are releasing, we’re not really giving you much narrative for them,” Southern said.

The preview of Triple Force Friday gave us a peek of two new characters, an alien named Boolio which will come alongside the new Lego Millennium Falcon and Babu Frik who will be sold with the Black Series figure of C-3PO. That said, we only know the names of these characters and nothing else, so we will have no idea how they fit into the narrative of the upcoming movie.

Of course, we can always make our own inferences based on the characters and icons they will be released with – Boolio with the Millennium Falcon, and Babu Frik with C-3PO.

Despite actions taken by Lucasfilm and Hasbro to prevent spoilers, we are sure that leaks regarding new toys will still happen as the clock ticks down to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Regardless, the steps these companies have taken to prevent their audience from being spoiled is still highly commendable.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as well as the rest of its merchandise, will be released on December 19, 2019.
