Lazada Has Been Crowned Southeast Asia’s Number-One Shopping App

A little less than two months ago, Lazada just celebrated its seventh birthday. Fast forward to May and Lazada has another reason to celebrate – it has just been named Southeast Asia’s Number-One Shopping App for 2018 by App Annie, in their annual Top Publisher Award.

On awarding the title of Number-One Shopping App to Lazada, App Annie stated that it “recognises how Lazada has attracted the highest number of monthly active users (MAU) in Southeast Asia”, beating out other e-commerce apps such as Shopee and AliExpress.

Lazada’s award comes on the back of the latest App Annie ranking for the first quarter of 2019, which Lazada also took the top spot for.

Cindy Deng, Asia-Pacific managing director for App Annie, notes how the ASEAN region has one of the fastest-growing consumer markets in the world, with every country in the region being “mobile first”. She also congratulated Lazada on transforming the ‘mobile environment with leading e-commerce innovations in such an important and fast-growing region”.

App Annie markets itself as being the “standard in app analytics and app market data”. They first introduced the Top Publisher Award eight years ago to give credit and recognition to the top mobile app publishers by global iOS and Google Play revenue.

Since then, App Annie’s annual award has expanded to recognise app publishers for their achievements in different areas aside from revenue. In 2017, it started giving awards to top publishers from the ASEAN region by global downloads and MAU.

In response to winning the title of Number-One Shopping App for 2018, Lazada Group’s Chief Marketing Officer Mary Zhou said,

“This win as the number-one shopping app in Southeast Asia is testament to our commitment in redefining the online shopping experience. We will continue creating more value for our shoppers and sellers in the region with leading e-commerce infrastructure investment and innovative engaging features on our app,”
