Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI is continuing to push the boundaries of realism and immersion, as the game will now allow players to listen to radio stations while outside their vehicles by equipping headphones and earbuds.
As described in the latest post on the game’s website, Grand Theft Auto VI will introduce “a series of on-demand podcasts for Jason and Lucia to experience beyond Leonida’s terrestrial radio, with both radio and podcasts available to listen to in vehicles and on foot through newly introduced headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones”, making it the first time the franchise has included such a feature, with past games limiting radio stations to vehicles.
To be fair, this system of listening to music while on foot isn’t exactly new in gaming, as past titles like Ubisoft’s 2016 sequel Watch Dogs 2 already had this feature, but it seems like Rockstar is taking things to the next level with its upcoming game, as it sounds like players will only have access to the feature by purchasing and equipping headphones or earbuds, giving actual functionality to visual customisation.
Rockstar’s post also detailed the six radio stations featured in Grand Theft Auto VI, which are set to be hosted by famous real-world singers, according to a feature by Rolling Stone. The game’s radio stations are listed below.
- Cocoteo FM: Leonida’s home for the best of modern Latin music, hosted by El Martillo (Bad Bunny) and La Gata (RaiNao)
- Back Country Radio: A country music channel hosted by MW (Morgan Wallen) and Delta Dawne (Lana Del Rey).
- AfroBank FM: An African music channel hosted by Burna (Burna Boy) and Palmsy (DJ Palms Trax).
- The Chamber 106.6: Metal music channel hosted by DJ Kerry (Kerry King) and DJ Tom (Tom Araya).
- Flash FM: Pop music channel hosted by Robyn (Robin Miriam Carlsson) and Alex (Alex Consani).
- Dirty South Classics: Rap and hip-hop music channel hosted by Trina (Katrina Laverne Taylor, aka Trina) and Trick (Trick Daddy).
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
