‘Black Myth: Wukong’ Hits 30M Sales, Beating ‘Elden Ring’ Milestone By Almost 2 Years

Game Science’s hit Soulslike action RPG Black Myth: Wukong already made waves upon its release in 2024, but now, less than two years later, it has reportedly smashed another colossal milestone by selling over 30 million copies, a feat that it achieved even faster than FromSoftware’s own title, Elden Ring.

This comes from a report by Chinese Youth, which adds that the game performed well even outside of China, with over half of its sales gained from the global market. Reaching the 30 million units mark is certainly an impressive feat for any video game, with only a handful of titles achieving this over the years. The most poignant example would be Elden Ring, which hit the goal in 2025, with Black Myth: Wukong achieving the milestone nearly two years faster than the FromSoft title.

These figures also place Black Myth: Wukong as one of the best-selling video games ever, alongside other industry greats like Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V, CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077, and Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, it has to be noted that this information came from the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYL), a political organisation of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which does raise questions of its validity. Even so, it’s still safe to say that the game has performed remarkably, especially since it was originally released only on the PC and PS5, with its Xbox version launching one year later.

Looking ahead, Game Science is currently working on a follow-up, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, a title announced during Gamescom 2025, although the title seems to still be in its early stages, with no release window announced. The game is set to focus on the titular ghost-catching god and will follow in Wukong’s footsteps as a single-player action RPG.
