Nintendo is remaking one of its most successful games of all time, 1998’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, for the Nintendo Switch 2, and best of all, it’s coming out this year.
Revealed via the Nintendo Direct showcase for June 2026, a brief cinematic trailer opened with a tapestry outlining the game’s narrative, followed by a shot of a sleeping Link, now reimagined in a modern art style. If this shot turns out to be actual in-engine footage, it also marks a departure from the more cell-shaded graphics style of past 3D Zelda games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, instead leaning into something closer to realism.
“The Nintendo 64 classic returns for a new generation in 2026,” read Nintendo’s description for the remake. “Reborn exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2!”
Ocarina of Time was originally released in 1998 for the N64 console, and marked the first 3D Zelda game. The title is often considered one of the best Nintendo games of all time, with the game going on to receive a remastered version in 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS, but now, the modern gaming generation can finally experience this defining chapter in Link’s journey, which saw the silent hero travelling through time to awaken six Sages and defeat Ganondorf, the evil king of the Gerudo.

While The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has not received a firm release date, the title will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and is set to launch sometime in 2026.
