Paramount’s upcoming video game movie adaptation, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is racing closer to its end goal, as the film has wrapped production, with director Jeff Fowler also offering a better look at its version of Metal Sonic, one of the gaming franchise’s most iconic villains.

Taking to social media, Fowler celebrated the film’s production milestone by posting a behind-the-scenes image of himself with a statue of Metal Sonic, the evil robotic version of the Blue Blur, last seen during the mid-credits scene of 2024’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3. While the previous snippet of the iconic villain was shrouded in darkness, Fowler’s image offers a clearer look at his appearance in the upcoming film, including his metal eyes and robot limbs that simulate Sonic’s iconic red and white shoes.
While plot details for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 remain under wraps for now, the film is also set to feature another familiar face, the pink hedgehog Amy Rose, who will be voiced by Kristen Bell (The Good Place). She will be joined by a returning crew of Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, and Keanu Reeves as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow, respectively, with the film’s live-action cast including James Marsden, Jim Carrey, Tika Sumpter, and Lee Majdoub as Tom, Dr Robotnik, Maddie and Agent Stone, respectively. Additionally, Ben Kingsley, Nick Offerman, Matt Berry, and Richard Ayoade will also appear in currently undisclosed roles.
It’s also unknown who will voice Metal Sonic, if at all, since the character has been known for being silent across most of his appearances in various Sonic-related media. Fowler also previously said that his introduction was a long time coming, explaining that the team “actually had the idea pretty early, during storyboarding. [We wanted] to honour how they were both introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog CD. So it felt very cool to honour that chronology and have them simultaneously introduced.”
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will speed into theatres on 19 March 2027.
