Superman Sequel ‘Man of Tomorrow’ First Set Photo Reveals Brainiac Logo

James Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, has now started production, with the director sharing the first on-set photo that hints at Lex Luthor’s (Nicholas Hoult) prison life, alongside a Brainiac logo.

As seen in Gunn’s post on Instagram, the image comprises mainly a large chessboard, alongside a prison badge for Luthor A. Eagle-eyed fans can also spot the Brainiac logo at the top edge of the image, hinting at the main villain of the sequel.

Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to 2025’s Superman, will see David Corenswet’s Superman forming an uneasy alliance with Luther as they work together to face an even more dangerous threat, Lars Eidinger’s super-intelligent villain Brainiac. The sequel will see the return of Gunn, who doubles as both its director and writer.

Man of Tomorrow will also see the return of other familiar faces from the first movie, such as Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific). Adria Arjona was also recently cast as Maxima, a morally ambiguous alien queen who later reformed herself to become a superhero, alongside Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern, a role he will also be taking in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns.

While not much information has been revealed about Man of Tomorrow’s plot, specifically when it comes to its new big bad, Brainiac, Gunn had previously teased that he will be a “much, much bigger threat”, so much so that it will force two rivals to temporarily put aside their differences and work together to face him.

“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree,” he teased while speaking on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show. “It’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.”

With production now fully underway, Man of Tomorrow is gearing up for what’s sure to be a massive launch when it soars to cinemas on 9 July 2027.
