Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’ Season 2 Trailer Ignites Dante Vs. Vergil Showdown

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for the animated adaptation of Devil May Cry Season 2. After a well-received first season in 2025, the series returns with higher stakes, sharper emotions, and a conflict rooted in blood.

Action takes centre stage in the new footage, but the core tension is unmistakably personal. Dante, the wisecracking demon hunter-for-hire, finds himself facing the only opponent who truly matches him — his own brother Vergil.

Returning to helm the adaptation is Adi Shankar, whose work on Castlevania helped define Netflix’s approach to video game storytelling. Animation duties once again fall to Studio Mir, with credits including Voltron: Legendary Defender and X-Men ’97. Johnny Yong Bosch reprises his role as Dante, Robbie Daymond voices Vergil, while Scout Taylor-Compton returns as Lady.

Netflix’s Devil May Cry Season 2 synopsis reads as follows:

A war between worlds ignites as Dante must battle the only force that mirrors his own: his estranged twin brother Vergil. In Devil May Cry season 2, Dante must confront his own devils and the feeling of family he lost as a child. With the reemergence of Vergil, will Dante lay to rest old demons or fall victim to them?

Devil May Cry can be traced back to 2001 on the PlayStation 2, created by Hideki Kamiya. What began as a spin-off concept tied loosely to Resident Evil 4 evolved into its own defining franchise, one that has maintained a strong identity across games, anime, and now streaming. A previous anime adaptation by Madhouse aired in 2007, but this latest version has found a broader audience, thanks in part to its sharper writing and consistent visual direction.

Season 1’s success made a follow-up inevitable, and the new trailer suggests that the creative team is leaning into what fans have been waiting for: a full-scale Dante versus Vergil showdown. With eight episodes set to unfold from mid-May, all signs point to a continuation that doesn’t hold back.

Netflix’s Devil May Cry: Season 2 premieres on 12 May.
