It’s almost time for the endgame, and it won’t be pretty. As superhero drama The Boys heads into its final outing, Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming Season 5.
The near-three-minute clip opens with Homelander, played by Antony Starr (Outrageous Fortune), saying, “My power is absolute. At heights no one’s even dreamed of.” Gen V stars Jaz Sinclair and London Thor also appear, with their respective characters interacting with Erin Moriarty’s Annie January / Starlight, while Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher returns with his newfound Supe powers. Ultimately, though, it’s Homelander’s world — in pursuit of immortality, the leader of The Seven seeks out his biological father, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), for assistance, and is later seen in the White House with a maniacal, creepy grin on his face.
The official logline reads, “It’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’ Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”

In addition to Starr, Urban, Moriarty, and Ackles, the cast for Season 5 of The Boys also includes Jack Quaid as vigilante Hughie Campbell, Jared Padelecki in an unspecified role, Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk), Chace Crawford (The Deep), Tomer Capone (Frenchie), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett), Cameron Crovetti (Ryan Butcher), Susan Heyward (Sister Sage), Valorie Curry (Firecracker), and Daveed Diggs (Oh-Father).
Created by showrunner Eric Kripke, the show is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series of the same name. All three also serve as executive producers, alongside Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Judalina Neira, Jessica Chou, Gabriel Garcia, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin, and Jason Netter.

While The Boys will soon be over, that won’t be the end of the larger universe. A prequel series focusing on Soldier Boy and Stormfront (Aya Cash), titled Vought Rising, is slated for release this September, joining the college-set spinoff Gen V and the 2022 animated anthology The Boys Presents: Diabolical in expanding the lore.
The fifth and final season of The Boys is set to premiere on 8 April with the first two episodes, followed by the finale on 20 May.
