The Grid. A digital frontier forever etched in pop culture, thanks to the Tron franchise since it first captivated audiences’ imaginations in 1982. Over 40 years on, and one game-changing sequel later, the saga has once again returned to the big screen with Tron: Ares, and this time, The Grid is coming to us.

Hosted in partnership with Disney Singapore, 300 fans in Singapore had the chance to catch this latest world-bending sci-fi chapter during Geek Culture’s premiere screening on 9 October at Golden Village Bugis+.

Even before the movie began, fans were already treated to a prelude of the action to come, with a life-sized Tron Light Cycle activation placed on the ground floor of Bugis+, offering a perfect photo spot for fans to live out their high-speed bike chase dreams. What’s more, those who wanted to prove their prowess as a User could also take part in a grid-based interactive game to pump themselves up for the movie and compete for the highest score.

The activation isn’t merely for the premiere alone, as from now until 20 October, the Light Cycle and Grid game will be open to anyone who watches Tron: Ares at Golden Village Bugis+, simply present a ticket stub for the movie between 12pm to 9pm daily to try the game and stand a chance to win movie premiums!

As fans made their way to the cinema hall, the main event was further hyped by its pre-show activities, where a lucky few walked away with exclusive Tron: Ares premiums, comprising a cap, T-shirt, keychain, LED desk mat, and light-up wireless charging pad. In addition, all attendees were given a sleek Tron LED bracelet, lighting up the hall in a sea of red.

In Tron: Ares, Encom and Dillinger Systems are butting heads once again in the race for technological supremacy, but this time, CEO Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) has an ace up his sleeve, possessing the tools to bring elements from the digital world into the real one, such as its Grid Master Control Ares (Jared Leto), a highly advanced security software sent to steal something known as the “permenance code” from Encom head Eve Kim (Greta Lee), a harrowing task that plays out all while the two worlds collide.

Directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Tron: Ares offers a fresh take on the franchise, flipping the script and bringing The Grid to the real world in two hours of pulse-pounding action, all backed by the pumping synth beats of industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. One thing’s for sure – this threequel is by far the most dangerous one yet.
