Where some things stay the same in a remake, others change. In the case of Amazon MGM’s upcoming remake of Highlander, there can only be not one, but two villains, as Jeremy Irons has been added to the roster.

The triple-crowned actor (Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Awards) joins Dave Bautista, who plays big bad The Kurgen, as the leader of a secret order called The Watchers. As described by The Hollywood Reporter, the organisation keeps “an eye on the immortals and see[s] them as a threat to humanity.”
Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) leads the action fantasy as Connor MacLeod, with Russell Crowe (Gladiator) stepping into the role of his mentor Ramirez, originally played by Sean Connery (James Bond films) in the 1986 film. Other names in the ensemble cast include Marisa Abela (Back to Black) as MacLeod’s modern romantic interest, Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) as his Scottish and mortal wife, and Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as an immortal warrior from Africa, and Max Zhang and Drew McIntyre in unspecified roles.
Helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, the Highlander remake was to begin production in early September or late October, but is now set for early 2026 after Cavill sustained an injury during pre-production. Michael Finch, co-writer of 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4, penned the screenplay.

No release date was announced for the project. Starring Christopher Lambert (Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes) as MacLeod, the original cult classic chronicles the climax of an age-old war between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present-day storylines.
