Nintendo has announced Metroid Ravenous, the next chapter in the long-running 2D Metroid series, during its Nintendo Direct stream on 9 September.
This time, Samus Aran finds herself in serious trouble. After her ship crashes on a remote moon, the legendary bounty hunter is ambushed by a mysterious group of assassins and left badly injured. Stranded far from safety, she must fight her way through a sprawling underground world in search of a route back to the surface.
As Samus explores the moon’s labyrinthine corridors, she’ll unlock new abilities and expand her arsenal with beams, missiles and other upgrades. The game also introduces a new focus on her Metroid abilities, allowing her to recover energy by draining stunned enemies after successfully countering their attacks. The assassins responsible for the ambush remain a constant threat throughout the adventure. Known as the Space Ninjas, the five killers each serve as major rivals, leading to intense one-on-one encounters that push Samus’ combat skills to the limit.
With its blend of exploration, fast-paced combat and powerful new Metroid abilities, Metroid Ravenous looks set to deliver a more aggressive and survival-focused take on the series when it arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on 28 January 2027. A Metroid Ravenous amiibo lineup and Metroid Ravenous: Special Edition (comes with a steelbook case and Samus Metroid Suit amiibo) will also be available on the same day of release.
