Buckle up, as it’s almost time to head for the Mojave. Hot on the heels of a poster reveal featuring its New Vegas setting and another set of images that offer a look at the past, Fallout Season 2 has given fans even more reason to be excited about its return.
Taking to the showfloor at Gamescom 2025, the first official trailer for the post-apocalyptic hit teases a flashback storyline centred on Walton Goggins’ Cooper Howard, aka the Ghoul, and origins of the devastating nuclear war, while introducing a familiar face from the game universe: Robert House, played by Justin Theroux (Mulholland Drive, The Leftovers). It also heralds the highly anticipated arrival of the Deathclaw and a 17 December release, alongside glimpses of factions like the Brotherhood of Steel, Caesar’s Legion, and the Vegas Strip — most notably, The Lucky 38 casino.
The forthcoming sophomore outing will “pick up in the aftermath of the first season finale in taking audiences on a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas,” per the official logline. However, it won’t be adapting the narrative beats of Fallout: New Vegas, which featured Mr. House prominently, and is instead set 15 years after the events of the game.

In addition to Goggins, Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Aaron Moten (Emancipation), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), Moisés Arias (Pitch Perfect 3), and Frances Turner (The Boys) are all reprising their respective roles as Lucy MacLean, Maximus, Hank MacLean, Norm MacLean, and Barb in the second season. Series newcomers include Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin, set to portray a yet-to-be-specified “crazy genius-type character”.
Based on Bethesda’s blockbuster video game franchise of the same name, the show follows a group of survivors wandering the landscape of a retro-futurist post-apocalyptic America. The first season proved to be a critical darling for Prime Video, becoming one of the streamer’s top three most-watched original titles of all time. It comes as no surprise, then, that Fallout has secured an early renewal for a third season, ahead of Season 2’s premiere on 17 December.
