With the news that Amazon Prime Video would be adapting their take on Young Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes films producer Susan Downey shared that Sherlock Holmes 3 was still in development, and the film was “very much alive in our hearts.”
Downey shared with Screen Rant that “look, no, there’s no update, other than it’s still very much alive in our hearts. Every day we talk about, “What is the best next version of that?” Because anytime I see Robert and Jude together, which fortunately, I do get to see a few times a year, we hang out, and I’m just like, “Can I get these guys back on screen together?”, it’s magic. There needs to be a really strong reason, it needs to be a great story, and we do have some things in the works.”
The Sherlock Holmes film series stars Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer) in the titular role, and Jude Law (Captain Marvel) as his trusty assistant, Watson. Guy Ritchie (The Man from U.N.C.L.E) directed the previous two films, but will not be back for a third, as Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher attempts to get on the case.
Can Fletcher steer Sherlock Holmes 3 out of development hell? With the pieces slowly falling together, it’s a mystery worth waiting for.
