Chinese tech giant Xiaomi announced that they will be bringing their flagship smartphone the Mi 9 to the shores of sunny Singapore.
The Mi 9 and its predecessors, such as the Mi A1, all share the striking feature of being super affordable (the Mi 9 going at S$579 onwards!), while maintaining functionality that can sometimes go toe-to-toe with some of the higher-end Android devices out there.
The Mi 9’s main pulling factor (besides its entry-level price) is its AI triple-camera setup, with the main camera housing a cool 48MP Sony IMX586 1/2″ sensor. Not only that, it has powerful low-light capabilities thanks to that main camera.
Its two other lenses – a 16MP ultra wide-angle and a 12MP telephoto – offer that utility which is pretty much the norm for smartphones these days, so it’s nice to have those options here as well. In fact, the Mi 9 scores a solid 107 on the official DxOMark website, ranking it as one of the top smartphone cameras out there.
The Mi 9 also houses a decent processor – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, utilising the latest 7nm process. Its Qualcomm Kryo 485 CPU ensures battery life isn’t hindered by its powerful performance, and the 4th-gen Qualcomm AI Engine ensures your usage on the Mi 9 is always optimised.
The Mi 9’s frontal display isn’t too shabby either. Sporting a 6.39-inch, 19.5:9 Samsung AMOLED Dot Drop display, your visuals are as clear as it gets, Underneath the display as a new and improved in-screen fingerprint sensor – another staple among Android phones these days.
Wireless charging isn’t new to the smartphone industry as well, and the Mi 9 is no stranger to that. The 20W Mi Wireless Charging Pad (sold separately) ensures that the Mi 9 is up and running again within 90 minutes.
Take note that these specs are all definitely not top-notch, but they are certainly above the average entry-to-mid-tier smartphone out there, so the Mi 9 is certainly a lot of bang for your buck.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 will be available in two versions. The first will be a 6GB + 64GB version (S$579
The other version is a 6GB + 128GB version (S$699) and will be available at Mi Stores islandwide, as well as part of Singtel’s mobile plans from April 13 onwards as well.
