Honestly, this caught me by surprise. As much as I loved the first modern XCOM, folks like me who love turn based simulation are not the biggest gaming market that developers would like to tap into. Frankly, I didn’t expect the first title to actually do so well that warranted a sequel.
Surprise aside…woohoo! New XCOM at the end of the year baby!
XCOM 2 transports players 20 years into the future, where humanity lost the war against the alien threat and the darn aliens have established a new world order. This level of continuity is totally on the levels of the first Warcraft title.
Roles are now reversed and while the game is described as “a combination of firepower and stealth-like tactics” the trailer above is nothing but stealthy.
The biggest takeaway from this all is that XCOM 2 will support a deeper level of modding. If you haven’t played the existing XCOM there’s no better time to do so. And once you’ve completed it once through, be sure to download the Long War mod to tide you over till November 2015.
Can’t wait!
