Worlds Collide In Tron: Ares’ Latest Trailer; There’s No Going Back

It’s time to hop back on the Light Cycles as Disney has dropped its newest trailer for Tron: Ares, revealing a clash of two worlds fighting for survival.

The latest trailer reveals far more detail compared to the earlier drop in April, starting with the identity of Jared Leto’s (Suicide Squad, Blade Runner 2049) titular Ares as an ultimate soldier Program, designed by Evan Peters’ (X-Men film series, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) Julian Dillinger. Described to be extremely strong, “lightning fast, and supremely intelligent”, Ares appears to be a fearsome threat, seemingly capable of being resurrected countless times even if struck down on the battlefield.

Dillinger has found a way to manifest these Programs in the real world, a feat that was only accomplished once at the end of Tron: Legacy when Garrett Hedlund’s (Triple Frontier) Sam Flynn brought Olivia Wilde’s (Don’t Worry Darling) Quorra into the real world. While the corporate-minded Dillinger no doubt has plans for these Programs, he soon begins to realise that he’s not in control of what’s happening. As Ares goes rogue and embarks on a quest of self-discovery, he finds himself fighting alongside the Users.

The end of the trailer briefly teases the return of Jeff Bridges (The Old Man, Iron Man) as Kevin Flynn, the video game developer and computer programmer who started the whole franchise and appeared in the first two films. Decked in purple robes with a glowing purple Identity Disc on his back, Flynn appears to play a powerful and sagely role.

Franchise fans will be pumped to see the latest instalment after 15 years, with the previous film being Tron: Legacy (2010). Joining Bridges in the cast, alongside Leto and Peters, are Greta Lee (Past Lives) as Eve Kim, a law enforcement member, Jodie Turner-Smith (Bad Monkey) as Athena, and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Hannibal) as Elisabeth Dillinger.

Hasan Minhaj (Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj), Arturo Castro (Narcos, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story), Cameron Monaghan (Gotham, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order), and Sarah Desjardins (The Night Agent, Yellowjackets) have also been cast in currently undisclosed roles.

With many details still undiscovered, fans will have to patiently wait for the film to drop on 10 October 2025 and explore more of the digital frontier of The Grid once again.
