‘What If…?’ Season 2 Trailer Suggests Link To MCU’s Multiverse Saga

Things are about to get even crazier in the Marvel multiverse, and fans have Season 2 of What If? to thank for that. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to march on with Phase 5, dubbed the Multiverse Saga, the debut trailer for the critically acclaimed animated series has offered a tease of what to expect in the next chapter.

Where the first season explored individual origin stories, it seems the upcoming adventure will focus on the multiverse narrative that has taken root in most of the studio’s live-action movies and series. The Watcher, now officially back, makes a reference this connection and the heightened stakes: “But things have gotten a little twisted…in the multiverse”.

Elsewhere, fans can catch a glimpse of unexpected team-ups featuring familiar characters, such as Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne), a T’Challa variant (whose voice actor has yet to be announced), and a woman in a green Kree / Captain Marvel uniform. More notably, a younger version of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord is also seen unleashing powers never before seen from his live-action counterpart. Hela (Cate Blanchett) and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), both of whom died at the end of their most recent films, got a brief appearance in the trailer as well.
