Universal Planning ‘Jason Bourne’ Sequel With ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ Director

Universal Pictures is gearing up for an exciting addition to its acclaimed Jason Bourne franchise, with talks of a new movie in the series. First reported by Deadline, this news marks a significant step for the Bourne series, which has been a staple in the action-thriller genre since its inception.

The project is in the early stages of development, and Edward Berger, renowned for his direction of the Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front, is reportedly in negotiations to helm the film. All Quiet on the Western Front secured nine Academy Awards nominations including Best Picture, and won Best International Feature Film.

The Bourne franchise, originally inspired by Robert Ludlum’s novels, has been a major box office hit, spanning five feature films and a spinoff TV series, Treadstone. The series gained fame largely due to Matt Damon’s portrayal of the titular character, Jason Bourne, with the exception of The Bourne Legacy, where Jeremy Renner took the lead as Aaron Cross.

Seven years have passed since the last installment, Jason Bourne, hit the screens, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter. Jason Bourne topped the box office in 2016 with US$415.5 million against a US$120 million budget.

While Matt Damon is not yet attached to reprise his iconic role, there are plans to approach him once the script is ready. However, the project does not have a screenwriter attached yet, indicating that it’s still in the beginning stages of development.

Edward Berger’s involvement in the project brings a new dynamic to the franchise. Known for his skillful direction and the ability to capture intense action sequences, as evidenced in All Quiet on the Western Front, Berger’s foray into the Bourne universe signals an exciting new direction for the franchise.
