Nicholas Hoult Eyed For Lex Luthor Role In ‘Superman: Legacy’

Nicholas Hoult is in advanced talks to portray Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, joining an already impressive cast including David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

James Gunn, serving as the co-chief of DC Studios and the director of this film, has recently confirmed the casting of María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, another antagonist in the movie. The superhero lineup features Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Superman: Legacy marks the start of DC Studios’ reboot of the cinematic universe, with Gunn and Peter Safran announcing a fresh direction for the franchise with the first wave, ’Chapter One, Gods And Monsters’. Despite the challenges posed by the actors’ strike, the film is on track to meet its scheduled release date in July 2025.

Hoult, known for his diverse roles, is also involved in several other projects, including Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2, voicing Jon in Garfield, and starring in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu alongside Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Bill Skarsgård.

Other actors who have played Lex Luthor include Gene Hackman, who starred opposite Christoper Reeve in Richard Donner’s 1970s-1980s Superman films, and Jesse Eisenberg who took on the mantle in Zack Snyder’s recent Justice League movies.

This new role as Lex Luthor represents a significant addition to Hoult’s already varied career, promising a fresh take on Superman’s iconic adversary.

Superman: Legacy will land in cinemas on 11 July 2025.
