Under 1KG Ultra-Portable ASUS ExpertBook B9450 Boasts 24 Hours Of Battery Life

Lighter and more portable laptops are the holy grail that PC makers have been gunning for, but limitations in technology meant that they can always come close, but never seem to nail it, especially with the increasing needs of users who constantly push performance on their laptops.

In comes ASUS with its latest ExpertBook B9450, which is hailed as the world’s lightest 14-inch business laptop, weighing only a little above 850g. Offering a 1920 x 1080 Full HD display with a 94% screen to body ratio, thanks to its ultra thin bezels, the unit can house up to a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10510 processor, 16GB of RAM, a pair of 1TB M.2 PCIe SSDs, and an Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU.

Much like a number of other laptops by ASUS, most notably the ZenBook Pro Duo, the ExpertBook B9450 also comes with the ASUS ErgoLift design, which elevates the base unit from the table when in open position, to help circulate air around the laptop to keep it cool while in use.

Helping to keep the laptop cool are heat dissipating graphite sheets and angled fans that are 25% smaller than the fans used in the B9’s predecessor, the ExpertBook B9440. Even with these features, the Taiwan company says the main reason the laptop is able to be so light weight is because of the use of magnesium-lithium alloy on the chassis.

Despite its small footprint, the B9450 is also extremely durable thanks to having rubber dampers installed into its body. It has undergone MIL-SPEC-810G testing, which means that the laptop is able to withstand drops, shock, vibrations and exposure to extreme temperatures, altitudes, and humidity.

Circular rubber dampers have been installed onto the ExpertBook B9450 to help with shock absorption.

But nothing beats holding it in your hands, which we were able to during the recent ASUS media summit in Taiwan. The B9450 manages to be slim and portable while still maintaining the look and feel of a premium business laptop. ASUS says the unit comes in Star Black, though it does look more like a very dark midnight blue instead of full-on black.

And of course, a business laptop will not be a business laptop without some key security features. The ExpertBook B9450 comes with a webcam shutter, for those worried about their privacy being breached through their webcams. It also has a fingerprint sensor right underneath the keyboard on the bottom right corner.

Surprisingly, the ExpertBook B9450 is able to squeeze in a pretty solid lineup of ports into its petite frame – 1 X USB 3.1 Type-A Gen. 1, 1 X Kensington lock slot, 2 X Thunderbolt 3 ports, 1 X HDMI, 1 X mini-HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

To top it all off, ASUS says the ExpertBook B9450 also comes with an impressive battery life, depending on a user’s need. There’s the smaller 33Wh battery which can last up to 13 hours on a full charge, or a 66Wh battery which can last up to 24 hours on a full charge. The only caveat is that the latter option will push the weight of the laptop to be around 995g, which is still under 1kg.

ASUS has yet to announce the ExpertBook B9’s price and availability.
