Ubisoft’s infamously long-delayed sci-fi sequel, Beyond Good and Evil 2, is officially under new leadership, with veteran designer Fawzi Mesmar taking over as creative director.

This news follows the unfortunate and sudden passing of Emile Morel in 2023, who had worked at Ubisoft since 2009 and joined the project in early 2023. Both Mesmar and Morel marked a long line of leadership changes in the project’s notoriously troubled development cycle, with still no end in sight since it was originally announced more than 15 years ago in 2008.
“Today I’m glad to share that I joined Beyond Good and Evil 2 as Creative Director. I have been working with those peeps for years now on this ambitious game and witnessed their talent firsthand,” Mesmar shared via a post on Linkedin. “I am standing on the shoulders of creative giants that have supported the team before me, and I look forward to continuing to craft a game that is truly unique for players to enjoy.”
Mesmar’s involvement seems to spell good tidings for the project, owing to his over 20 years of experience in the games industry. He was head of design at DICE from 2019 to 2021 and Vice President of Global Creative at Ubisoft from 2022 to 2024. Mesmar had also previously worked with the Beyond Good and Evil 2 team as Vice President of Editorial.

Despite receiving new leadership, the project remains largely elusive, with little to no details about the upcoming title apart from a handful of cinematic trailers and early demos. The game is set to be a prequel to the original 2003 sci-fi adventure Beyond Good & Evil, a cult classic which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with a remaster effort.
No release date has been announced for Beyond Good and Evil 2, and it seems fans still have a long way to go before the title ever sees the light of day.
