By the power of Grayskull, the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series is getting rebooted for Netflix!
Made in collaboration with the IP’s official toy maker, Mattel, the reboot of the iconic 1983 series will essentially be a retelling of the classic storyline that centred around the conflict between He-Man and Skeletor, but with a fresh spin on it, both in writing and in visuals.
The reboot will be directed by none other than Kevin Smith, who also happens to be at the helm of the upcoming Masters of the Universe: Revelation sequel animated series also coming to Netflix.
This then sparks the question of which series will come first, no doubt. With this announcement in mind, many He-Man fans will no doubt be clamouring for the reboot to be shown first since it is a direct homage to the classic ’80s series, though we probably wouldn’t complain if Revelations came out first, anyway.
Now we might potentially have a total of four He-Man storylines that will all be available on Netflix at some point, with Noelle Stevenson’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power animated series still going strong with its fourth season recently released. The other potential show set in the fictional world of Eternia may be the Masters of the Universe live-action movie starring Noah Centineo.
A release date for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has yet to be announced.
