‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Will Have 7 Episodes As Showrunners Tease Potential Season 4

The Last of Us Season 2 will have 7 episodes, being just two episodes shorter than Season 1, as showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann take on adapting Part II for the small screen. Season 2 is set to stream on HBO Max in 2025, with plenty of stars joining the cast.

“The story material that we got from Part II of the game is way more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do from the start was figure out how to tell that story across seasons,” Mazin said. “When you do that, you look for natural breakpoints, and as we laid it out, this season, the natural breakpoint felt like it came after seven episodes.”

He also teased that “Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4,” with promising developments ahead for the show, and Season 2 episodes “will feel like its own blockbuster.” Despite the season’s lower episode count, the showrunners are going for quality over quantity, and will have “an episode that is going to be again closer to — I don’t know if I would say feature length but quite big,”

We’re eagerly anticipating Season 2 when it releases in 2025, but in the meantime, why not play Part II if you’re looking for more The Last of Us content?
