The ‘Friday the 13th’ Franchise Gets Resurrected As Multi-Platform ‘Jason Universe’

Jason Voorhees is back to star in his own universe, as the Friday the 13th franchise gets resurrected once more. While no exact titles were announced, prequel series Crystal Lake executive producer Robert Barasamian and Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller promised “new projects we’ll announce in the coming months,” in an interview with IGN.

The new era in the franchise will be called the Jason Universe, and Jason has indeed, been around the universe, with Jason X starring the serial killer as a murderous cyborg in space. A 2009 reboot attempted to renew the franchise, but a planned sequel was cancelled soon after.

Spanning across entertainment, games, and immersive experiences, the new projects will keep “shocked and thrilled audiences … coming back for more.” Currently, there are twelve Friday the 13th films, a video game, and a prequel television series in development.

Robbie Barsamian, VP of Horror, Inc. also added, “We’re focused on honoring the legacy while elevating the fan experience and appealing to today’s horror audiences as we develop new ways to watch, interact and engage with the Jason Universe.”

Who will be Jason Voorhees’ next victim? Stay tuned to find out.
