Sylvester Stallone Reprises ‘Cliffhanger’ Role In Reboot After 30 Years

If you grew up in the 80s/90s, you would have watched the iconic 1993 action thriller, Cliffhanger at least once. The opening scene is probably one of the most stressful moments in movie history back in the day, catching it for the first time on the big screen.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as mountain rescue ranger Gabriel “Gabe” Walker and the new film will be helmed by Ric Roman Waugh (Angel Has Fallen, Greenland). The reboot’s script will be done by Mark Bianculli, who is writer-consulting producer for the Amazon series Hunters.

“Growing up with the biggest action films of the ’80s and ’90s, working on many of them myself, Cliffhanger was by far one of my favorite spectacles. To be at the helm of the next chapter, scaling the Italian Alps with the legend himself, Sylvester Stallone, is a dream come true. It’s going to be a great challenge and blast taking this franchise to new heights, a responsibility I don’t take lightly,” said Waugh.

With Stallone at 76 years old already, here’s hoping he can deliver a thrilling reboot that will keep us at the edge of our seats once again, and perhaps even top the 1993 original. Just bring Michael Rooker back too!
