Pedro Pascal Joins Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ Sequel In Unknown Role

With the stock of Pedro Pascal riding high, the actor has the choice pick of projects at his disposal. According to Deadline, Pascal’s involvement in the Gladiator sequel is in the final stretch of negotiations and his role is currently unknown.

At the moment, the Ridley Scott movie has yet to start shooting. But with the director secured, Connie Nielsen, who played Lucilla in the original movie, is returning to the sequel as well.

Apart from Pascal and Nielsen, the likes of Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, and Denzel Washington will be part of the upcoming Gladiator movie. Lucius Verus, the child of Lucilla in the first movie, returns and will be played by Paul Mescal.

Following the exploits of Roman General, Maximus (Russell Crowe), it’s likely there will be a time jump for the sequel. At its time, Gladiator was a bonafide and critical hit at the box office earning more than $460 million worldwide, and was nominated for 12 Oscars, winning five including Best Picture. It also changed the fortunes of Crowe and solidified his stardom.

Given Pascal’s current career trajectory, it’s likely he will bring much prestige to the project and draw in younger audiences. His role as Joel in The Last of Us and Din Djarin in The Mandalorian has solidified his status as “The Daddy” of the Internet.

At the moment, HBO is looking to get The Last of Us season two into production as soon as possible, the Gladiator sequel could get in its way. The projected date for the sequel has been marked for 22 November 2024 which means quite a packed calendar for Pascal in the months to come.
