‘Superman & Lois’ To End With Season 4

The CW’s Superman & Lois is preparing to hang up the cape with its fourth and final season, slated to air in 2024. The show’s ending was expected, however, after DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed to Variety in January that the series would only run for “one or two more seasons”, wrapping up to make way for James Gunn’s new DC Universe.

Launched in February 2021, the show has garnered a loyal fanbase, captivated by the performances of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The supporting cast, including Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent), Michael Bishop (Jonathan Kent), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), has brought the world of Superman to life with engaging depth and nuance.

Developed by Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing and inspired by DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the show has received acclaim for adding new dimensions to the superhero genre. Helbing and co-showrunner Brent Fletcher have steered the series to critical acclaim, with executive production by industry heavyweights including Berlanti and Geoff Johns.

“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, the CW Network’s President of Entertainment, “We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions.”

The anticipation for the last season is high following a dramatic third-season finale, where Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) transformed Bizarro (Hoechlin) into Doomsday, leading to an intense confrontation with Superman (Hoechlin) that spanned from Earth to the moon.

The ten-episode farewell in season 4 promises to be a “must-watch” event, offering a fitting send-off to the iconic characters. As the series approaches its final chapter, the showrunners promise an unforgettable showdown against Lex Luthor, the most formidable adversary the show has seen.
