It won’t be long before David Corenswet, the latest Man of Steel, dons the red cape again. The next project in James Gunn’s Superman Saga, Man of Tomorrow, is set to fly into theatres on 9 July 2027, less than two years from the date of announcement.
In the accompanying Instagram post, a comic book version of Superman is seen standing next to a heavily armoured Lex Luthor, which fans would recognise as his Warsuit, with the title and release date revealed in the caption. No other details, including story specifics, were shared, but the forthcoming follow-up — not a direct sequel — will mark the suit’s live-action debut after numerous comic book and animated appearances.
In the source material, Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult in the 2025 film, creates the suit to match Superman’s strength and abilities in hopes of gaining the upper hand; however, the titular superhero’s friendly pose in the visual seems to hint at some sort of alliance between them. Both Corenswet and Hoult are expected to reprise their roles alongside Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl — while no official announcement was made, the Last of Us star teased her return on Instagram Stories, adding “See you soon” to a repost of Gunn’s original post.
Hawkgirl was one of the superheroes inducted into the DC Universe (DCU), together with Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi). Like it or hate it, Superman stands as the top-grossing comic book movie of the year, having earned US$611.6 million at the global box office. Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) stars opposite Corenswet as Lois Lane in the pic, which also sets up the stage for Supergirl’s upcoming solo film in 2026, directed by Craig Gillespie of I, Tonya fame.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow will follow the 2026 releases of the Milly Alcock-starring Supergirl and body horror film Clayface, led by Tom Rhys Harries as the titular villain. It hits the silver screen on 9 July 2027, a few months before the arrival of Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II on 1 October. Unlike Gunn’s entry, however, the sequel isn’t part of the DCU continuity as it falls under the standalone “DC Elseworlds” banner.
