Jason Momoa is trading his superhero suit for a much more rugged one, as James Gunn has shared an extended look at the Aquaman actor in costume as the antihero Lobo in Supergirl.
In a video shared on Gunn’s Instagram page, Momoa is seen walking out of his trailer, smoking a cigar and wearing fangs. “Finally,” the actor replies when asked about his thoughts on playing Lobo, before the clip transitions to an official look at Lobo in the upcoming movie, with Momoa perfectly portraying the character’s look and unhinged style.
Momoa’s casting was first announced back in December 2024 and was an apt choice, considering he is known for his infectious charisma and memorable roles as insane characters like Dante Reyes in the 2023 film Fast X.
Momoa’s new role marks a stark departure from his appearance as the King of Atlantis in 2018’s Aquaman and its 2023 sequel, switching sides to now portray an anti-hero instead. Lobo is a ruthless interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, most known for his rugged looks, biker getup, and signature chained hook weapon, which he often uses while riding his iconic Spacehog speeder bike, all of which can be seen in Supergirl’s newest clip.

As the second film in Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe after 2025’s Superman, Supergirl will shift the spotlight to Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El, with the film directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. Other cast members include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze.
Supergirl will hit theatres on 26 June 2026.
