‘Suicide Squad Isekai’ Trailer Brings Anime Flair To Unlikely DC Villain Team-Up

The last we heard of Suicide Squad Isekai was a teaser at Anime Expo 2023. Now confirmed to air in 2024, the ambitious crossover gives us a taster through a stunning official teaser trailer, accompanied by English subtitles.

The newest addition revealed more characters to join Harley Quinn and The Joker in the series, along with their voice actors. Namely:

  • Harley Quinn voiced by Anna Nagase (Amanai Riko in Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season, Tsumugi Himeno in Ippon Again!)
  • The Joker by Yuuichirou Umehara (Goblin Slayer in Goblin Slayer, Manabu Horikita in Classroom of the Elite)
  • Deadshot by Reigo Yamaguchi (Sanders in 86)
  • Peacemaker by Takehito Koyasu (Dio Brando in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Takasugi Shinsuke in Gintama)
  • Clayface by Jun Fukuyama (Koro-sensei in Assassination Classroom, King in The Seven Deadly Sins)
  • King Shark by Subaru Kimura (Todo Aoi in Jujutsu Kaisen, Hayashida Haruki in Tokyo Revengers)

The isekai genre is now a staple of anime, which usually involves throwing a modern-day protagonist into a fantasy world. The flashy and captivating Suicide Squad-vibes look to work well with mythical elements of isekai in the latest teaser. WIT Studio (Attack on Titan Seasons 1-3, Ranking of Kings, Spy x Family) showcases its animation expertise through the seamless integration of the two, seen through the video’s eye-catching action sequences and well-timed scenes.

Accompanying the trailer is the catchy opening song, “Another World”, composed by Tomoyasu Hotei. Tomoyasu is most well known for his song Battle Without Honor or Humanity, which has been featured in films such as Kill Bill and Transformers.

An official description of the story is as follows:

“In the crime-ridden city of Gotham, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark. These Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. It’s a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies—an “ISEKAI”!

With lethal explosives planted in their necks, there’s no running or hiding, and failing the mission means a one-way ticket to the afterlife!”

An official website for Suicide Squad Isekai is also listed in the video, which currently redirects visitors to the official DC website.

Helming the project is Eri Osada, Jujutsu Kaisen chief animation director, with the screenplay written by Nagatsuki Tappei (Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World) and Umehara Eiji (Vivy – Fluorite Eye’s Song). Amano Akira (Katekyo Hitman Reborn, eIDLIVE) crafted the character design drafts, and Hosoda Naoto (Seiren, Digimon: The Movie key animator) designed the characters for the series. Suehiro Kenichiro (Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, Golden Kamuy) will be working on the music for this series.
