Developer Moonshot Games, which is part of ex-Blizzard head Mike Morhaime’s new studio, Dreamhaven, has announced its debut title, Wildgate, a multiplayer first-person extraction shooter set in space.
Revealed via a two-minute gameplay trailer and an extended deep dive video, Wildgate is described as a “crew-based shooter featuring out-of-this-world spaceship combat” and looks to be a blend of team-based shooting with quirky high-tech weapons, ship combat, resource gathering and extraction shooter elements.
In the game, take on the role of Prospectors, individuals who explore the vastness of space in search of “the Artifact”. As a multiplayer title, matches can be won by either escaping an anomaly known as the Reach, which functions as the game’s playable area, or by eliminating all other players. Each round looks to feature a lot of flexibility when it comes to gameplay and tactics, such as invading another player’s ship, sending out probes to survey the Reach for treasure, or embarking on expeditions for loot.
To keep every match fresh, the Reach will also be procedurally generated each time, with a variety of Prospectors and ships for players to choose from, each with their own abilities. “Wildgate was designed for anyone that’s ever wanted to go on a daring space adventure alongside a fearless crew,” Moonshot Games head Jason Chayes said in a news release, “Players are invited to work together and confront evolving cosmic threats – whether they’re mysterious hazards of the Reach – or presented by rival Prospectors.

“Since every match of Wildgate plays differently, there’s tons for you and your friends to discover as you explore the Typhon Reach,” added Morhaime. “Ship-vs-ship combat brings an element of chaos that makes for an especially fun time, and we’re looking forward to players experiencing it for themselves.”
This marks the second multiplayer-centred title coming from Dreamhaven, as Moonshot Games’ sister studio Secret Door also announced an update for its upcoming co-op tabletop-inspired adventure Sunderfolk, which is set for release on 23 April. Like its brethren studios, Moonshot Games is comprised of Blizzard alumni, led by StarCraft 2 veterans like Chayes and designer Dustin Browder alongside artist Ben Thompson, who worked on Hearthstone and World of Warcraft.
Wildgate is expected to launch sometime in 2025 for the PS5, Xbox Series X and PC, with a preview playtest starting soon from 10 to 14 April.
