‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’ Speeds Ahead At Paramount For 2027 Release

Hot off the heels of Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s upcoming release, Paramount Pictures has already revealed its future plans for the blue blur, announcing that the next film, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is currently in the works, aiming for a Spring 2027 release.

As reported by Variety, the film is currently in the early stages of its infancy, with details of its plot or cast still being kept tightly under wraps, but its reveal doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering the third movie has already received praise from critics before its release, earning a respectable 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and shaping up to be a holiday hit for Paramount.

The Sonic film franchise has also performed well thus far, with the first two movies earning a combined US$725.2 million at the global box office, with a further US$180 million from digital purchases and entertainment rentals. The series also received a TV spin-off, Knuckles, from Paramount+ earlier this year.

Based on the iconic SEGA video game franchise which traces its roots to 1991, the three Sonic the Hedgehog film adaptations have been directed by Jeff Fowler and feature Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden as sheriff and father figure Tom Wachowski, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, the main antagonist from the games. Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Idris Elba joined the cast in the second film as Tails and Knuckles respectively, while Keanu Reeves will play Shadow the Hedgehog in the third.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is heading to cinemas on 26 December in Singapore, while Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is set for a Spring 2027 release window.
