Anna Faris (Mom) and Regina Hall (Girls Trip) are officially returning to the Scary Movie franchise, stepping back into the roles of Cindy and Brenda for the upcoming revival hitting theatres in 2026.
According to Deadline, the revival’s script is penned by Marlon Wayans (Air), Shawn Wayans (White Chicks), and Keenen Ivory Wayans (The Last O.G.), with Michael Tiddes (Naked) directing. The project was first announced at CinemaCon in 2024 and will begin shooting this October. Paramount will release the film worldwide through its first-look deal with Miramax, which originally distributed the first three entries.
“We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again),” Faris and Hall shared in a joint statement, marking their long-awaited reunion with the franchise’s original creators.
Rick Alvarez (Marlon) joins the Wayans brothers in both writing and producing the new instalment, which will serve as the sixth film in the horror-spoof series.
The Scary Movie franchise first hit theatres in July 2000, starring Faris and Hall in breakout comedic roles. The film opened with US$42 million at the domestic box office, setting records at the time for the largest opening weekend for an R-rated horror film and for a film directed by a Black filmmaker, with this success eventually leading to four sequels and cementing the franchise as one of the defining parody series of the early 2000s.
Following their work on Scary Movie, the Wayans brothers collaborated on other cult comedy hits, including White Chicks (2004) and Little Man (2006), before branching off into solo projects. Their return to Scary Movie reunites them with two of the franchise’s most beloved stars, creating a nostalgia-fueled comeback for the long-dormant series.
The revival also arrives amid renewed interest in parody films. Paramount recently scored with The Naked Gun, another comedy revival, which has earned over US$59 million globally since its release earlier this month.
With Faris and Hall reprising their iconic roles and the Wayans brothers back at the helm, the Scary Movie reboot is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most anticipated comedies and will haunt theatres on 12 June 2026.
